It saddened me to read this week about an event at a daycare that occurred not too far from where I grew up as a child. Daycare workers at the Lightbridge Academy in Cranford, NJ had created a “fight club” with the children enrolled as young as age 4 and as old as age 6.
The recorded fights included the children shoving, pushing, and striking each other and it somewhat shocked me that the article stated that, “None of these children are believed to have suffered any injuries.” While the children perhaps did not suffer any physical injuries such as bruises, cuts, or broken bones, what about the long-term emotional damage that these two so called caretakers have caused?
I think that although it is important to focus on physical damage, it is also important to remember the emotional damage that incidents such as these can cause. I only hope that the children involved were given access to both adequate physical and mental healthcare.
All The Best,
