In an excellent article recently, NPR discusses the effects in adulthood facing children who have mental health concerns. Not only do they explore diagnosable disorders, but more importantly things that are issues but do not necessarily fall within one specific "label". As an author of the study on the longitudinal effects of childhood mental health issues on adults points out, there are no small mental health issues. Many children do not get the help they need because they don't fit a specific diagnosis. However, they may still face the challenges in adulthood that "officially" diagnosed children might face.
