[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXkMaZz5Mo8&w=560&h=315] Tis the Season indeed. The season of conflict and unmet expectations, that is, for many of us. The holiday season is about to kick start next week with Thanksgiving and for some people this signifies the start of a season of anxiety, stress, disappointment, and disconnection. Ahhh, the magic of the holidays seems to bring out both the best and worst in us and it’s easy to feel rather powerless to do much about it other than react and over-react and cope in less than ideal ways such as excessive drinking, medicating, eating, etc. Why not make a change this year? Getting our expectations under control is a good place to start. Learning to set healthy boundaries and avoid over-committing could be another way to go. Practicing mindfulness and cultivating gratitude into our interactions with others is a possibility as well. You have the choice and power to change your thinking about the holidays to make it the hap-hap-happiest season of all. And, if all else fails, there’s always David Sedaris’ Holidays on Ice to help you keep your sense of humor!
